San Bernardino offers something to its visitors that no other place can: an opportunity to ski in the cold peaks of the San Bernardino Mountains and then to bask in the heat of Death Valley all in the same day. The county is so large that it is even bigger than some states such as Rhode Island and Delaware, meaning that no matter how long you’re there for, you’re never out of things to see and do in San Bernardino. Unique things that you can only do there are hike the San Bernardino Mountains, visit the very first McDonald’s that ever opened, and dine in the incomparable Castaway Restaurant.

San Bernardino County is home to one of the greatest landscapes Southern California has to offer. And with a diverse mix, including mountains, ocean and desert, this region provides an ideal environment for hikers, mountaineers on mountain bikes or just about anyone who wants something new that can help them experience natural beauty in its many shades of green.

History

Victorville's history dates back more than 100 years prior to incorporation, when the first settlers of European descent arrived.
In about 1885, the community was known as Victor. It was named after Jacob Nash Victor, a construction superintendent for the California Southern Railroad (Santa Fe Railroad).

Shopping

Dunia Plaza, just south of the Mall of Victor Valley, features a Lowe's Home Improvement, Kohl's, Walmart, Michael's Crafts, and Staples to name a few. Dunia Plaza is adjacent to the High Desert's dining destination, Restaurant Row that features 19 eateries including Cracker Barrel, BJ's as well as Pancho Villa's to name a few. Dunia Plaza and Restaurant Row are some of our most desirable retail locations because of their immediate frontage to more than 98,000 daily vehicles along I-15.

Wildlife

Bobcats, Chuckawallas, Coyotes, Roadrunners, Tortoises, and so much more!
People come to the high desert for many reasons, not the least of which is the stark beauty of the desert itself. High desert climate and topography have created challenging ecosystems which need protecting and which are home to different types of wildlife. Human residents of the high desert should take the time to learn about the non-human residents who share this environment in order to co-exist safely and harmoniously.
